CMMC and IT Support for Ohio Manufacturers

PC NET TECHS supports small Ohio manufacturers and machine shops with managed IT, networks that reach the shop floor, and the cybersecurity controls that the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requires of defense suppliers — helping you get ready for an assessment and stay ready afterwards.

What CMMC means for small manufacturers

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is the U.S. Department of Defense's requirement that suppliers protect the defense information they handle. If your shop makes parts for a prime contractor, the requirement can reach you through your contracts even if you have never worked with the government directly.

Companies that handle Federal Contract Information need basic safeguarding practices. Companies that handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) — drawings, specifications, and technical data marked as such — face the larger set of controls based on NIST SP 800-171, and many will need a third-party assessment.

How we help you prepare

CMMC is part paperwork and part technology. Your assessment is performed by an authorized third party; we help you get the technical side right and keep it running.

Scoping

Finding where controlled information lives, so protections cover the right systems and not the whole company.

Gap review

Comparing your current setup with the required practices and building a plan to close the gaps.

Technical controls

Multi-factor sign-in, access control, logging, endpoint protection, patching, encryption, and secured networks.

Evidence and records

Configurations and logs kept in a form that supports your System Security Plan and your assessor's questions.

Staying compliant

Ongoing monitoring and maintenance, because controls have to keep working after the assessment.

IT that works on the shop floor

Manufacturing networks have to reach the office, the floor, and often a yard or warehouse. We connect machines, scanners, and shop computers reliably, separate production equipment from office systems, and make wireless work around steel racking and heavy equipment.

Keeping production running

Downtime on the floor costs orders. Monitoring, planned hardware replacement, and restorable backups keep the systems your schedule depends on available.

Questions

Common questions

Does CMMC apply to my shop if I am a subcontractor?
It can. CMMC requirements flow down through contracts, so suppliers that handle Federal Contract Information or Controlled Unclassified Information for a defense prime may need to meet them. Check the clauses in your contracts and ask your prime.
Can you certify us for CMMC?
No. Certification assessments are performed by authorized third-party assessment organizations. We help you implement and maintain the technical controls and records you will be assessed on.
Where should a small manufacturer start?
With scoping: finding exactly where controlled information is stored and used. A smaller scope means fewer systems to protect and assess.
